The Garfield character symbolizes the pretentious and self interested male archetype, while the traditionally dressed Japanese woman symbolizes the patience of associated with woman from traditionally male dominated societies. In this piece one will notice the anguish that the cat is experiencing as the woman applies an yet unknown pressure that inevitably cause the cat to succumb reluctantly to the will of the woman - hiding gets him nowhere and brings no solace. - C.R.
